Everyone loves a good deadlift! 5x5 @140kg But thats not the point! - Take the positive which is good strength but also take the negative so the positive becomes greater. It’s a side on social media that isn’t often shown. You always see the dits and the glam, the PRs and the successes but never see the bad side to training. Not everyday is going to be amazing. Training can and WILL SUCK a lot of the times. My athletes will definitely second that. POST WORKOUT/REST DAY ACTIVE RECOVERY • There is some evidence suggesting that "active recovery" (light activity) on rest days & post workout is better than "lying on the couch" and might have a positive effect on hypertrophy⬇ • 2 interesting studies on this topic👇🏻 🔹Study 1: Group A was supposed to minimize physical activity on their rest days, while group B did some light activity (fast walking) on their rest days. Result: Over the period of 12 weeks, group B achieved more hypertrophy & performance improvements than group A.➡ A potential flaw is that (as far as I know) the training of the groups wasn't controlled/monitored. However, it's still good evidence that active recovery may be better than doing nothing on rest days✅ • 🔹Study 2: This time the effects of active recovery were tested in the post workout period. Group A & group B both were given the same nutrients post workout in form of a high protein/high carb shake(according to the study, both groups were in calorie surplus at that time). Additionally, group A did a few minutes of light postworkout cardio (LISS), while group B just went home(we can assume group B didn't do any physical activity post workout). Result: After 10 weeks, group A achieved greater hypertrophy than group B(because group A had higher nutrient absorbtion, according to the analyzes)✅ • ➡Both studies suggest that some form of light activity (active recovery) post workout and on rest days is beneficial for muscle growth. Theory behind this is that light activity increases blood flow and therefore nutrient delivery to the muscles, which has a beneficial effect on hypertrophy(a muscle is in a better environment to grow if there are more nutrients available)✅ • ➡Walking/cycling home from the gym post workout, going for a walk or a light run, playing some sports or doing some mobility/strecthing on rest days etc. All this can act as activity recovery! Just make sure the activity isn't intense❗, as this would impair recovery through muscle damage, CNS & systemic fatigue👎🏻 • Keep in mind this won't add 10kg of muscle to your frame overnight, but it likely has a small effect that can add up long-term👍🏻

DRAG is a #force which opposes thrust & limits forward speed. The 2 TYPES of Drag are Parasite & Induced Drag . As we examine the 2, we see that #parasite drag (result of air #resistance as we #fly through it) is further subdivided into 3 parts; Form.-, Interference.- & Skin Friction Drag (See photos) . The amount of parasite drag, varies with airspeed. The faster you fly, the more Parasite Drag . Remember the #lift Formula ? Parasite drag is directly proportional to the square of our #airspeed . For example; an #aircraft #flying at 120 knots will experience 4X the #drag of an #airplane traveling at 60 knots at same #altitude . LIFT INDUCED DRAG When a #wing creates lift, a ‘DOWNWASH’ is induced behind the wing, due to air being deflected downwards . Simultaneously, the #airflow around the #wingtip is creating VORTICES, spiralling from below the wing to above it . As these #vortices WRAP AROUND the wingtip, they actually CHANGE the #downwash ANGLE of the air flowing over the wing . This then TILTS the Lift ANGLE backwards, shifting from vertical to slightly AFT . This is caused by #induceddrag ; which increases at low airspeed, due to more lift produced at high #aoa . We experience reduced Induced Drag by flying within a wingspan of the ground (#groundeffect ) We’ll cover this in a future post . If we plot both Parasite & Induced drag on a Graph, we get the ‘Total Drag Curve’ . Here, the LOWEST point on the graph shows the #airspeed at which we make the MOST Lift & LEAST Drag . This value is called L/D Max or ‘Best Glide Speed’ (#vmd Minimum Drag Speed) . #pilots should be familiar with this value, as in the unlikely event of an #enginefailure this speed gives you the BEST GLIDE RATIO, meaning you’ll be able to stay aloft longer, while you #manoeuvre to the intended field for #emergencylanding . NOTE on the left side of the Total Drag Curve; DRAG increase the SLOWER you fly . This is also known as ’The Backside of the Power Curve’ where excessive amount of #thrust must be added to counter the high amount of drag . At low airspeed, keep in mind that your controls will be less responsive & larger inputs may be required

How are you holding up during this time of uncertainty?⁠ ⁠ Our family is spending a lot of time together and as much time as we safely can outdoors. I go dark on the weekends because that time is important to my family. This weekend we took the boat out and went fishing. ⁠ ⁠ I will be honest, I didn't want to go. Sometimes my youngest runs out of patience and it makes for a difficult time. (he's 4 so its totally understandable that he wouldn't want to sit in a boat for hours). But I went because this was an opportunity for a fun family outing. ⁠ ⁠ You guys. Nature is amazing! Being on the lake, with the sun was shining and view of trees and other wildlife was like therapy. A great way to relax and just feel happy. ⁠ ⁠ I encourage you today to get outside and go for a walk! I will be the first to say, I don't like to be cold.
