Sherlock had a lump around his right eye that grew rapidly over several weeks from May to the end of June. Because his age, surgery was risky to remove the tumor and extensive tests to determine where the cancer originated would have been too much for his senior body. The decision was made to keep him comfortable until it was time. The tumor began to put pressure on his brain, causing his first seizure on July 7th. He suffered a second seizure on July 28th and a third on Wednesday, July 31st. The timing between the last two seizures indicated it was time. Sherlock slept through Thursday night and even during his last ride in his wagon early Friday morning around his neighborhood park, where he walked each morning for over 17 years. Assisted by the vet, Sherlock passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, August 2, 2019 at 10:40 am. He was surrounded by his brother, Otis, and his humans, who brought him home at 8 weeks old. Sherlock was 17 years, 7 months, 3 days old.
