I always felt the need to have something on my hands. To twist, to play. Or I'd be turning around the rings in my fingers or touching my earrings, twisting them. And that was like all of my life... But many times my parents or friends said that it was weird, that this made them feel that I was impatient or something else. So I stopped doing it. Then I became anxious and impatient in many situations lol. 🙄😬😂 My therapist told me that I should stim in whatever ways that makes me comfortable. Since them, this is my choice. I love to have this elastic bracelet on my fingers and play with them all the time, without bothering whatever people think about it. It makes me feel good. It doesn't harm anyone, so why not?! Stop masking, it only hurts you! Embrace who you are and be authentic. I suffered so much feeling that I was broken or had something wrong with me. Why I always felt tired and drained in family reunions, parties etc? Why I can't stand small talk for too long? Now I know why. My brain just operates in a different way. It's not a disease. I'm not broken and I don't want to do things that harm me or makes me feel bad just to please others. People need to have real respect for others, and that's also understanding that their expectations are not necessarily good for everyone. Speak up.Let them know. I thought about planning a big party for the one year anniversary of Tinkles Her Pants. Dinner and drinks with everyone who has supported me. But the longer the list grew, the more inauthentic the celebration felt. I love a good get together, I love my extension of support, but what about where it all began? With just one man. When I told Shawn I wanted to start a blog, he didn’t even ask the topic. But what he did do was start researching “how to build a website.” The next morning, I found him at the kitchen table watching YouTube videos on coding. After many weeks of trying without avail, he handed me money to hire someone more capable. He’s read every post, canceled meetings to watch the kids when I have to speak or stay out late, and supported his wife as I swing every door of our life wide open. People often ask me if Shawn’s okay with everything I share and the answer is: absolutely. He’ll tell you he hasn’t seen me happier in our seven years of marriage, and there’s no way he’d ever put a cap on that. Big parties can wait. When it came time to celebrate, I just wanted to go to lunch with my biggest fan. #friscoblogger #dallasblogger #dfwblogger #autismblog #autismmom #autismdad #specialneedsparents #specialneedsmom #specialneedsdads #kidswithautism #aspergers #highfunctioningautism #girlswithautism #boyswithautism #hypertrophiccardiomyopathy #parenthood #candidchildhood #motherhoodunplugged

As an autistic person with both ADHD and "quiet" BPD (borderline personality disorder), I can confirm that I have absolutely no emotional middle ground. The transitional stage from 3 to 8 is a wild experience bc it's like my body is in calm sleepy mode and AAAH I CANNOT PHYSICALLY CONTAIN THIS EMOTION mode at the exact same time, and I don't have a good way to describe how bizzare that feels. I get random surges of euphoria about once every 15 minutes unless I'm really focused on something or trying hard to pay attention in class, in which case the frequency decreases but the intensity increases. When I was younger, I sometimes had surges of anger or sadness. But now I mostly just get two surge emotions: euphoric, and anxious. Other than that, my baseline state is a vague, calm, enigmatic mystery. Of course I do feel other emotions, but they're more rare, and when I feel them they're either unusually muted or unusually intense. I also always feel "love" (even though that's not a very clearly defined emotion), for my cats, friends, and family members. I think love is the only thing I feel the full range of, and it's a calm emotion for me, so when it's intense it still feels somewhat relaxed. Sometimes if it gets really intense it veers into sadness territory, and I guess it makes sense that if I love someone that intensely I'd be sad that our lives are impermanent. I also tend to happy-cry whenever I see good and important things related to my main special interest, which is Rojava/ Democratic Confederalism/ Social Ecology. I've never had a problem identifying my emotions when I'm able to feel them; the problem is discerning how I'm feeling if I'm not in an extreme state. My baseline emotions are so low-level that I usually have no idea how I'm feeling until I have a sudden spike. Right now I'm working on being more in tune with my low-level emotions, so I can prevent huge spikes of negative emotions. Any of y'all have similar experiences? ~Eden🐢 #autismspectrum #autismacceptance #autismawareness #actuallyautistic #redinstead #neurodiversity #aspergers #autisticselfadvocacy #autisticpride #sensoryprocessing #adhd #actuallybpd #emotionalregulation #quietbpd

I am excited to introduce a wonderful new book to my range written by beautiful Melbourne mum, Monique who is also the author of @theeverydayautismseries Series 💝 “Never Give Up: Riding the Emotional Rollercoaster of an Autism Parent” is the deeply personal story of Monique’s introduction to autism through her daughter’s diagnosis at the age of 3 and the lessons she has learned as the parent of not one, but two, autistic children. It is the story of high hopes, shattered dreams, and the constant struggle to learn how to love and nurture their precious children and stay sane and hopeful in the face of daily challenges that every parent of an autistic child faces."

This story is about my friend Teri Gamble’s son. I love Teri so much and what she shares about Michael. “When Michael was first diagnosed at 7 years old, I had never heard of Aspergers. 🤔 I was, however, very familiar with ADHD. I had taught several students who struggled with it and knew the impact that it had on their daily lives. I struggled for awhile to put Michael on meds. I witnessed some of the nasty side effects 😫 from my students and heard about more from their parents. When Michael’s psychologist said if he could focus and control his actions better, that not only would his confidence increase, so would his IQ, Bill & I decided to give it a try. He tried almost every ADHD medicine on the market: Ritalin, Adderall, Vyvanse, Concerta... just to name a few. They helped with his focus, but ... he lost his sweet personality, was tired, stayed constipated, had no appetite (I had to make him eat!!), had an upset stomach, and always, always struggled to fall asleep!! Sometimes, it would take him hours to fall asleep, even with his “nightly” Melatonin ritual. 😢 After researching and hearing about how Aspergers & ADHD are gut related (imagine that!!), I decided to give him the same supplements that I take. Did you know that magnesium, vitamin C, and vitamin B6 help combat ADHD⁉️ He is no longer on any prescription medications 🙌 or seeing his doctor every three months... and yes, he is able to concentrate. He’s a cashier handling a lot of customers/money and is doing a great job! His coworkers compliment him every time I go in the store! 😍 Never say never!!! 👊 These supplements have made a huge difference!! He is able to focus, his personality is shining again, he has an appetite, no more stomach issues, and since starting Probio5, he falls asleep right away!! Huge victory!! 🎉 I love giving him natural, plant-based ingredients, instead of synthetic chemicals!! No more side effects!! He’s doing great, and he’s loving life!! ▶️ UPDATE: I have shown Michael your comments and told him how happy everyone is for him. His response, while laughing ... “Well, I’m not signing any autographs!” 🤣😂 - Aspergers sense of humor!!” #aspergers #adhd

I had doubts about sharing my amateur Asperger diagnose after rewatching the social network( interestingly I think Jesse’s portrayal of Mark definitely exhibited trace of Asperger syndrome) I went back to retake the autism test from Temple Grandin book💥 bam without my self denials and masking, I scored very high on the test, and have several professional diagnostic tests and articles to back it up. #girls with #aspergers, are so easily to be missed. And sadly I think I am one of them Yet they couldn’t escape the fate of high chance of depression, social anxiety, OCD, self destructive behaviors, which i have been through all throughout my teenage years. And I never would have thought I have Asperger, because I have no language delay and I am not good at Math. But these interestingly are not the criteria to put you at a final diagnose. Red flag 1: Growing up I have always felt like a misfit, until I developed some masking skill to act and blend in I would start having a few friends. But I always felt such exhaustion after hanging out in groups. Those exhaustion would drag me to be alone for days without the desire to talk in groups again. Red flag 2: I think very differently, always say weird stuff at the heat of a conversation, so I have to work extra hard not to offend. Little did I know that I became very sensitive not because I am good at reading cues from people, it’s because it’s hard for me so I have to pay more attention to it. Red flag 3: eye contact, I always train myself to look people in the eyes, because maintaining eye contact used to make me nauseous. And it was very tough the first couple of years. Until now even though I look a lot more natural, but if I didn’t remind myself, or if I didn’t assign myself a role to play that day, it would be very tough and I would come off very quirky Red flag infinity: repetitive behaviors, lack of empathy for the others ( a lot better now that I am a mom) obsessive interest( fantasy world, FBI case files, Wikipedia, all the trivia) plus many more. My symptoms might have been mild but I hope with this sharing it could help some people who don’t know they are on the spectrum #autismawareness

So, “resting autism face” is kind of a thing apparently. This is one of those things that suddenly makes sense now. People always think I’m mad. They always tell me to smile more. When I took dance very briefly as a youngin, they had to constantly remind me to smile while I was dancing. I still never remembered. I can dance or I can tell my face to smile, I can’t do both! Yeah I’ve been told I look unapproachable because of my mad or very blank looking face. Well, maybe that’s how autistic brains are meant to work! See, we don’t actually WANT to be approached! • • • #autistic #autism #autisticpride #autismspectrumdisorder #aspie #aspiegirl #aspergers #autisticwomen #asd #autismacceptance #actuallyautistic #neurodiverse #neurodivergent #atypical #aspiewoman #autisticandproud

This is the little boy that made me a mommy and changed my life forever. It has been wonderful, difficult, magical and scary. He was diagnosed with autism when he was was 2 and a half and we were so worried for him. Our worries have mostly disappeared now. Brysen started using words more and more after his diagnosis and he also went to speech therapy twice a week. He still receives it along with occupational therapy at school. Even though he usually has to be prompted on things like what he wants to eat, he does pretty good with his speech! His favorite thing in the world is the alphabet and at 5 years old my boy can read. He struggles socially but school has helped him tremendously. ❤️❤️❤️

Facts of my aspie life. I grow up like a neurotypical. My parents did never thought about looking for any extra support. I was smart, good grades, learned to speak, write and read quite young and well. Everything was good right? Well, you don't develop autism. You are autistic and the signs were always there but neither I or my parents noticed. We just thought it was how I am (and in the end, that's it anyway lol).. When I was a kid, my mom and dad used to draw a button on my belly button. They said it was my voice volume button. And when we were out they would make a gesture like tunning the button, when I started to speak very loud and did not notice. I think it's nice how they found a way to teach me to pay attention to my voice volume. Sometimes, my husband, friends or my kid tells me that I'm speaking too loud. But not always I can notice. And then I'm like what you're talking about, I'm not talking loud! Other day my husband recorded me and I noticed that yes... I start to increase my voice without noticing 😬🙈🙄 Does any of you have issues with how you speak? (besides speaking too much and interrupting everyone lol - getting better but still an issue). . . . #aspieadvocate #aspieadult #aspielife #aspiegirl #aspiemoments #aspiepower #aspie #aspergers #autismawareness #autism #autismo💙

At times living with chronic pain I find it easier to hide all of myself rather than separating myself from the pain. It is easy to think people cannot understand or even comprehend what you’re going through. But we, living with chronic pain and illness, have to remember that hiding pain means you never know if the person opposite can indeed relate or even give you hope. Chronic pain isolates you from the world but also from your own true self because it stifles you. When the pain becomes it’s worse I find I am no longer there. My body exists only as pain. This is the scariest thing I’ve ever experienced. It means that all you hold dear is gone, even if it’s just for a period of time. Whatever people say about social media, having been on Instagram for 3 months, I have found overall that having the ability to communicate with people going through similar challenges is both inspiring and comforting. #chronicillness #chronicpain #chronicpainwarrior #pain #mentalhealthawareness #ptsd #invisibleillness #autoimmunedisease #healing #aspergers #wellnessjourney #rehabilitation 📸@therealpeterlindberg #addnothingtoitpodcast🎙podcast link in bio💫

I’ve spent today mostly at the stable and at a few stores getting a few things that I need. My neck is also busted again since I overworked it, I should have brought my neck brace with me today but I forgot. It’s great to have these neck braces and such but I need to get better at actually bringing them with me when I know that I’m gonna need them 🦓 also look at this tree that I found, it’s so pretty 😄 #chronicillnesswarrior #chronicpain #ehlersdanlossyndrome #heds #chronicpainwarrior #hypermobileeds #photooftheday #dailypic #aspergers #aspergersyndrome #aspergerlife #lifewithaspergers #dyscalculiaawareness #aspergerawerness #lifewithdyscalculia #dyscalculia #zebrawarrior #edszebrawarrior #potssyndrome #posturalorthostatictachycardiasyndrome

Hello Autism Family! 👋 Let’s discuss about occupational therapist and their typical day at work. They help kids work on fine motor skills, so they can grasp, release toys and develop good handwriting skills. They also help kids who have sensory issues and attention issues to improve focus and social skills. #occupationaltherapy #aspergers #specialneedsmom #specialneedskids #autismawaress #lightitupblue #autism #autismawareness #autismacceptance

If you’ve been in my little corner of the Internet for long enough, you’ll know how much I love oatmeal. But do you know WHY? ⠀⠀ Nope, it’s not because of beta-glucans or slow-release carbs or the abundance of minerals or any of the usual (and incredibly boring) stuff you’ve heard about before. Nope. ⠀⠀ It’s because of the texture. ⠀⠀ And this is because of autism. ⠀⠀ And now you’re like, “What the what?” ⠀⠀ But it’s true! Like many autistics, I process sensory experiences differently from neurotypicals, and I feel textures really strongly. Sometimes this can be bad (read: sensory overload) but sometimes it can be good - like with my love of oatmeal! I eat oatmeal almost EVERY SINGLE DAY, and I find that it helps my anxiety, sensory processing, and overall mood, and just generally makes me happy, too. It also helps my cognitive functioning, which in turn allows me to cope better with stress! I have no intention of EVER breaking up with my oatmeal: if it were legal and not just, ya know, dumb AF, I’d marry them. ⠀⠀ Do you have any sensory foods? I’d love to know what they are and what you like about them! ⠀⠀ 😋💙🌾🥣🦉📖 ⠀⠀ Photo cred: @michelliiiiii - - - - #plantpowered #vegansofig #whatyoudontsee #whatveganseat #healthyeating #autism #endthestigma #plantbased #vegancommunity #aspielife #healthymeal #aspiesofinstagram #veganlifestyle #veganfoodshare #veganfoodporn #plantbaseddiet #healthydiet #crueltyfree #veganlife #aspergers #veganpower #vegan #veganfood #veganfoodlovers #aspie #asd #aspiesofig #hfa #oatmeal #porridge

No explaining. No complaining. You don't need these coping mechanisms. Your perceptions and intuitions are just fine. You may see things differently than your "Aspie" partner or parent, but neither of you is wrong. It's okay to foster differences and independence. Think differently. Be different. Normal’s gotta go is the main theme of the amazing lecture I got to attend! I’m so excited to be able to advocate to build a world that empowers differences. Being able to hear Jonathan Mooney, the author of “Normal Sucks”, was inspiring and gives me the strength to keep attempting to change the culture of our local schools one IEP at a time❤️ #normalsucks #neurodiveristy #advocacy #education #differentlywired #adhd #dyslexia #autism #aspergers #unclearningcenter

Your mind is not your mind. It is a receiver of All That Is. Out of habit of thought, you have tuned that mind to a very limited frequency band and thus create from limited options. Let’s start again. Open your mind and create beyond what has been perceived as possible.

Frustration is a precursor to an opening to something brand new in your life. Allow yourself to feel the power of what you know can be true, but have not yet experienced.
