Plyo Day! What exactly are plyometrics? Plyometrics, aka jump training, are exercises in which muscles exert MAXIMUM force in short intervals of time, with the goal of increasing power (speed-strength). Plyometric exercises assist in speed and acceleration development by increasing your ability to rapidly contract your muscles after they have been partially stretched. This clip shows some of our #NFL Draft prospects executing hurdle hop variations that we commonly use in our training programs. The intended goal of the hurdle hop is to help the athlete with projecting their center mass forward by using elastic energy and gravity. The space between hurdles is based on the hurdle height. As the hurdle gets higher, the horizontal speed of the athlete usually drops because the angle of projection becomes more vertical. As a former athlete 🏈🤼‍♂️🏋🏼‍♂️there wasn’t an area of my body that didn’t hurt at one time or another. My only real therapy methods were ice baths and physical therapy if I was really hurt.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ I WISH I knew about acupuncture when I was younger. Lots of people no longer have access to heavy weights... So, how can we make lighter weights feel heavy, enter tempo! . Slowing down certain portions of a lift and adding pauses, can make the lightest weights feel very heavy! . How do we decipher/program tempo? . Tempo is programmed using 4 numbers, eg as seen in the image 4020. Each number corresponds to a specific portion of a lift. If you were doing a squat, the 4020 tempo would mean: • 4 second eccentric (or down phase). • 0 second isometric (hold at the bottom). • 2 second concentric (or up phase). • 0 second reset at the top before performing the next rep. . With the increasing social restrictions due to the coronavirus EPA Will not be able to run its monthly clinics as per usual but there will be zoom meetings every two weeks to check in with the athletes and make sure that everybody is okayh. For the athletes that have their horses at EPA, our founder Julia Battems is putting in a roster system so that everybody can see the horse while also abiding to social distancing rules and keeping safe. Julia understands that the horses are a major part of our athletes lives and is therefore making sure that we can all see them as often as we can while also abiding to equestrian Australia and government rules.
