Navigating the ingredients list on the back of your skincare products can seem bewildering, but it's important to know what might irritate your skin.
Synthetic fragrance is worse, but even natural ones like aromatherapy oils can cause rashes and breakouts. In addition, some fragrances can make your skin photosensitive (meaning it's more reactive to the sun), which can increase your risk in sun damage. Be careful when using products with fragrances
⛔ Mineral oil
Petroleum-based oils create a non-breathable coating over the skin, it feels great initially but can lead to congestion, blockages and duller complexions. Not a good option for maintaining healthy skin and can cause further breakouts
Other ingredients that have come under fire are things like parabens, sulfates, phthalates, 'chemicals', synthetic anything. However, with these, there are good and bad versions and the percentage and how they are used makes a difference. 🤔 Parabens
For example, parabens are widely used as a preservative, as they are the most reliable and available option. A study found some parabens in breast cancer tissue and despite the study being found inconclusive, they have since been vilified even decades later in skincare. Head to our IGTV where we discuss the truth about parabens in more details
