Meal planning tips to save money and create less food waste: 1. Check your pantry/fridge/freezer first. See what you already have on hand and think of ways to incorporate those items into your meals this week. Have a can of black beans and a box of rice in the pantry? Sounds like burritos bowls are on the menu to me. 2. Check the weekly ad. See what items are on sale this week and try to include those in your meals this week. I typically try to plan meals based on which meats and produce are on sale. 3. Use up all the food you buy. This usually requires me to think of meals that include ingredients that can be used in another way. For example, if buy tortillas for taco night I know I can use the leftover tortillas for wraps for lunch. Or if I buy a big bag of potatoes I’m sure to plan multiple meals that use potatoes, not just one. 4. Freeze what you don’t use. We frequently freeze fruits, meats, and breads if we aren’t going to use it before it goes bad. Frozen fruit can be used for smoothies and meat and bread can easily be defrosted for later use. We also freeze leftover soups, and excess homemade pasta or pizza sauce. 5. And a fun one for last. A funny thing my aunt introduced us to called “put it in the eggs”. If you have leftovers from dinner the night before it can be a fun idea to try to “put it in the eggs” for breakfast then next morning. My husband has put pizza, pasta, sandwiches, etc in his eggs the next morning. I’m allergic so I can’t join in on this one. If you don’t eat your leftovers in your eggs for breakfast, make sure you at least eat them for lunch or dinner! #mealprep #mealplanning #mealprepideas #budgetingtips #budgetfriendly #budgetmeals #grocerylist #debtfreecommunity #debtfreejourney #debtfreegoals #frugalliving #frugallife #frugalmeals #minimalism #zerowaste #minimalist #personalfinance #financialindependence #financeblogger

Student loans will be the death of me. I’m currently in my masters program and have almost 60K in student loan debt from my undergrad and my masters. They’re all services by Nelnet and I finally calculated the monthly interest on each group of loans. Right now the loans are in deferment because I’m in school but I’m going to try to at least pay the interest if I can depending on if child support payments start coming through or not. #studentloans #debtfreejourney #debtfreegoals #debtfree #budgeting #budgetingtips #budgetplanning #budgetmom #momsonabudget #singlemom #momlife #singlemomstrong #budgetmom

The Debt Snowball is a debt repayment plan where you list the balance of all of your debts smallest to largest. ⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ You then create a payment plan where you pay the minimum on all of your debts EXCEPT for the smallest debt. That one you put any extra money towards. Even if you can only put $5 that amount helps.⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ When you pay the smallest debt off you then add the amount you were paying on that debt and add it to the minimum payment of second debt on your list.⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ You will begin to pay off your debts much faster as you knock off the smaller payments. This is my favorite debt repayment strategy because you get the satisfaction of crossing the smaller items off and seeing progress.⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ Do you use the Debt Snowball method for your debt repayment? Share your experiences with this method in the comments below. ⁣ .⁣ .⁣ #debtsnowballmethod #budgetingtips #financialeducator #financialeducationservices #financialeducationmatters #debtfreelifestyle #debtpayoff #debtpaydown #debtfreecommunity#tellyourmoneywhattodo #moneymindset #financialcoach #savingschallenge #howtobudget #budgetweekend #budgeting #moneymanagementtips #debtfreejourney #thebudgetnista #debtsnowballmethod #budgetplanning #moneymanagementtips #moneygoal #personalfinances #personalfinanceforwomen #personalfinancecoach #savingmoneyisfun #savings #budgetnista #moneymanagment

Teaching kids about money can be exciting and exhausting at the same time ! However this money learning journey is rewarding for all parties involved. At the end of last year, I decided to get my daughter a debit card via @greenlightcard. This card is a debit card for kids. It allows parents to have control of where kids spend their money, how much they can spend and it also motivate kids to complete tasks such as chores, and / or responsibilities. Parents can set up weekly, one-time, or monthly allowances. For older kids with jobs, they can have direct deposit with this @greenlightcard. This is Addison’s first time ever using her debit card. She was both nervous and excited and the same time. #financialfreedom #teachkidsmoney #moneymoves #parentalk #budgeting #budgetingtips #frugalliving #frugalmom

All I can say is thank god January is nearly over!! Not only do I have to wait an extra week to be paid, I also forgot to factor petrol into my budget (clever I know) therefore I currently have £13 to last me until Friday! On the plus side I got my pay slip today so I can set out my budget tonight which will keep me occupied for a while. This month has been a bit hectic and something very exciting is happening next month which I am looking forward to sharing with you! But that will have its own post to mark the occasion! Being part of this journey has meant I’ve started to become a lot more ‘green’ and I’ve started to consider how my life impacts the environment. I’ve recently discover a company called #Terracycle who recycle products that aren’t usually recycled- like crisp packets, toothpaste tubes, wipe packaging, writing instruments... the list goes on! problem is I live in a small flat with a small kitchen and no outdoor space! So does anyone have any recycling storage ideas for a small space??! #debtfree #debtfreelife #debtfreecommunity #debtfreejourney #debtfreegoals #debtfreedom #ukdebtfreecommunity #ukdebt #debtfreeuk2019 #goals #financialfreedom #daveramseybabysteps #budget #budgeting #budgetplanning #budgetplanner #budgetingtips #financialfreedom #financialindependence #goinggreen #environment #recycling

Spending one on one quality time together at least once a week has been super important to Jesse and I. But is has been really hard to make it happen for many reasons. We both work. We have a toddler. I have chronic health problems. We have family commitments. Tight finances....... All of these things increase the juggle factor when it comes to carving out time for each other as a married couple. If this is something you can relate to as a stress point then here are 4 tips that have helped us make date night/day more affordable! 1. Know the deals in your area! Almost every restaurant has a day of the week where things are cheaper or there is a great deal. To take advantage of this it will mean finding a way to plan your date on that specific day and it takes a little research but it's totally worth it! 2. Share a meal! This is probably the easiest way to pay less when out on a date. I understand this can be hard if you both like very different things but even then it's not impossible. Jesse and I have pretty different likes/dislikes but one thing we can do is split a personal sized pizza (pictured above) and we just get what we want on our side of the pizza! Super easy and simple. The meal in the picture was under $20. And if we had got waters and no cookies it would have been $10. 3. Do date night at home! With this date you probably won't spend any money! Jesse and I have board games we'll play for date night after Ivy has gone to sleep. We'll make dinner and then enjoy watching YouTube videos about all sorts of things that interest us. And the nice thing about the videos we watch is that it often times sparks conversation and we end up really connecting. Just do whatever works for you guys and your unique relationship! 4. Go on day dates! Brunch or lunch menus will almost always be cheaper than dinner menus. And splitting a meal at lunch time is SUPER affordable. On day dates we also really like just getting a coffee together and going for a walk somewhere or sitting and connecting for a couple hours. Going and just exploring a new spot can be lots of fun as well. Please share in the comments if you have a tip for making dates more affordable!

This can totally mess with your self confidence and self worth. Today I want to focus on positivity and something you're proud of! ⠀ ⠀ Share your wins with me in the comments!!⠀ ⠀ My biggest win recently was going completely out of my comfort zone to be a guest on a podcast and the episode launches today!! I went home to visit my parents this weekend. They have been renovating a house for over a year, inspiring many posts of mine about contractors, home maintenance and repair and...rebates! My mom works at Menards, so the majority of the materials have been purchased with an 11% rebate, giving the materials budget a nice boost. As I look around the house, just about everything I see has a rebate associated with it. Check out this awesome bathroom cabinet that was 100% financed by rebates. If it seems like too much work or something that only other people can do, I completely understand, but you’re wrong. It’s very doable and takes up just a few minutes of your time. Jump on my email list and I’ll share these and all of the other tips I know about getting extra money the easy way. :) The link is in my bio! #budgetingbasics #babystepstosuccess #businessgoals #dreambusiness #dreambigworkhard #financemanagement #budgeting #budgetplanner #budgettips #budgetingtips #budgeting101 #budgetlife #budgetliving #budgetmom #livingonabudget #budget2020 #youneedabudget

Charging through another work the week 🤘🏻 . We’ve been asked quite a few times how we afford long term overlanding trips. It’s not some secret sauce. And it really is attainable for anyone that’s willing to put in the work. Here’s a few things we’ve done that helped: 1. We got rid of our debt. School loans, vehicle payments, credit cards, you name it. We didn’t want to do a trip until we could actually afford it (in cash), so getting rid of any debt was step one. I think it’s also important to note that we didn’t buy brand new vehicles, we bought vehicles we could afford to pay cash for. These are simple things, but make a huge impact. . 2. We prioritized what we needed and attached numbers to it all so we can wrap our heads around the budget for the route. We write down every single piece of gear or equipment that we’ll need, as we think of them. And then we estimate (generously I might add) fuel costs (look at the fuel prices in the country you’re going to!), unexpected mechanical issues, shipping, food, hotels, etc. This is not to overwhelm us, but rather to prepare us. Once we get an idea of what it’s going to cost, we can assess how much we’ll need to save/earn to be comfortable on the road. This is also a good way to see if you need to adjust the route to better fit your budget. . 3. We figured out a sustainable way to make income while on the road. This isn’t as tough as it may first sound. Have a home/appt? We rented ours furnished while you’re gone (we did this on the first leg and it was incredibly helpful but was a lot of work to property manage so we are no longer doing it). ⏩ Continued in the next comment.....

Recipe is on the front page of jackmonroe.com and cookingonabootstrap.com - I keep meaning to set up one of those 'link in bio' things that all the cool people have but I can barely pay my own friggin wages at the moment let alone someone else to make everything BETTER so for now don't be a lazy daisy, just type the link into the web address bar and who knows, maybe after seven more years of cooking ultra budget recipes I might be able to afford a social media manager!! Some benefits of the Lifetime ISA: ✅ 25% government bonus (calculated monthly) ✅ If you don’t use the money in the account to buy a house, it can be used to pay for your retirement ✅ Maximum you can deposit annually is £4000 Here are some watch outs: ❌ If you wish to withdraw money from the Lifetime ISA for reasons other than buying a house or retirement you face paying fine of up to 25% of your balance ❌ If used for retirement you can only withdraw once you turn 60.
