Here’s three things I learned about myself while being an employee:
1. I need to be doing something that I love or I’ll get bored.
I started noticing a pattern. Year 1: I would start out strong, year 2: would be OK, but by year 3: I was on the verge of an improvement plan. Don’t judge me. I’m trying to be honest.
By year three, I was over it. I often had started working on my side hustles more than my main job lol. I needed something new.
This probably also happened because I prefer to be my own boss, but that’s a whole different story.
2. I’m too grown for pettiness.
There are some things that I would’ve tolerated in my 20s, like working all night and super quick deadlines for no reason 😝, but now that I’m older I realize that it doesn’t have to be that way.
So if I’m your employee then you need to make some reasonable deadlines and we need to go home at a reasonable hour.
3. I am not doing the work of more than one person without being paid for that.
Although I make my job look easy, that doesn’t 👏🏽 mean 👏🏽 it 👏🏽 is.
I wish I had the nerve to tell my bosses back then, “I know my worth and my value, and clearly you do too, because you want to give me more work. So let’s just make this official and increase my salary.” Someone tell your boss that and let me know how it goes. 🤣
