Forget hours on the treadmill or doing 900 “HIIT” classes per week. Girls, it's time to pick up some heavy weights! . If your goal is body composition change (fat loss/lean muscle gain or getting “toned*” strength training should be the foundation of your programming. . *There is really no such thing as “toned”.. muscles grow (hypertrophy) or get smaller (atrophy). The toned looked you’re after is MUSCLE IN THE ABSENCE OF FAT. . Performing constant low intensity, long duration, aerobic exercise can lead to a slower metabolism, storing more fat (from stress hormone -cortisol) and your body metabolising your lean muscle tissue. Which then results to less muscle, more fat and slower metabolic rate. There is a difference between fat loss and weight loss. YES CARDIO HAS ITS PLACE WITH FAT LOSS, but this shouldn’t be the foundation. Same goes with HIIT, done right HIIT is amazing due to the EPOC (excess post exercise oxygen consumption) response. A lot of gyms market themselves and classes as HIIT but really it’s just circuit training with minimal rest.. just making you super sweaty and tired.. but plays its place in burning calories. True HIIT is done in the Alactic system (0-15sec) . Benefits of strength training include: increased lean muscle tissue, decreased body fat, increased metabolic rate, CNS development, increased bone density, injury prevention, increased strength, power and speed . I'm sure a lot of women reading this have heard all the myths of strength training for women (you will become big and bulky.. It's dangerous.. Bad for your joints... You can't stop lifting weights, or all your muscle will turn to fat..) well it's all BS. . All that will happen is you might get a booty 🍑a flat stomach and some nice legs. Your body does not produce enough testosterone to make you out on the size and muscle like a male bodybuilder . Strength training should be the foundation. Hire a GOOD coach and get to work 👌🏻

To identify your reasons for dieting, question your motive until you get to the true root Example: Q: what is your goal? A: to get lean Q: why do you want to get lean A: to feel more confident Q: why do you need to be lean to feel confident A - I was made fun of for being overweight in middle school and it really hurt my self esteem. This here is the TRUE why! you can use it to push you when sticking to your diet gets tough . - Play the long game You get burnt out because you have a unrealistic timeline in your head of how quickly you can reach your goal and once that time is up you give up If you’ve spent a year or two neglecting your health don’t expect to reverse it in 8 weeks (you can definitely gain some momentum in the right direction in that time) I want you to think of where you’ll be in 6 months, 1 year, even 3 years from now if you made small improvements each day . - Environment Create an environment that supports your goals. I won’t lie to you, just doing a 4 week nutrition challenge isn’t going to create the lasting changes that you might be after. It could, however, give you a great start to practice some new habits that do though! ⠀ ⠀ They say it takes 66 days of doing something consistently before it will turn into a habit.. before it turns into something that we either don’t even think twice about because it’s just part of our day like brushing our teeth. Or it turns into a part of our regular routine that we love and do because we enjoy it or the benefits we see from doing it!⠀ ⠀ If you sign up to do any challenge or program or work with a nutrition coach and set a timer to countdown until you’re done, chances are your results and progress aren’t going to last either. You have to go into it with a mindset that you’re learning about new changes that you can keep in your life in the long term, that is when things are going to stick. No ones results maintained themselves by working at it for a couple months and then going back to their old ways. ⠀ ⠀ My biggest suggestion is, find some way of doing it that you kinda like and could see yourself doing long term and try that protocol. 【Quality over quantity】⁠ If you just look at the quantity of food, I eat more than average people. . When my clients said they want lose weight, 95% of them were NOT eating too much.⁠ Their bodies were out of control because they were eating insufficient amount of food.⁠ .⁠ If you are busy counting calories, this would give you another perspective.⁠ .⁠ I haven't found the data in NZ, so this is a story about Japan, but quite interesting and I wanted to share with you.⁠ .⁠ After the WW2, Japan was really poor. Compared to those times, it has become such a rich country today. However, when you look at their daily calorie intake, between 50's and 60's, Japanese people used to eat around 300kcal more than now. (MAFF,⁠ 2008)⁠ .⁠ On the other hand, their average body weight is higher today. For men in their 30s, the average body weight went up by 25.9% from 1950 to 2010 (MHLW, 2018). . People are taking less calories and gaining weight. Plus, there are more diabetic people today.⁠ .⁠ The take-home message here is this: People don't become diabetic or gain weight because they eat too much. . 🍛Can I go out to eat and still lose fat?🍛 - I get some variation of this question a lot. Dining out is an increasingly normal part of people's daily routines because of how busy we tend to be 🐝, plus the convenience of it is certainly hard to pass up. - The short answer to this is yes! As long as you're in a calorie deficit you can still lose body fat and hit your goals. - The longer and more nuanced answer is more of a "yes, BUT..."☝🏽 - The average number of calories in non-chain restaurants is 1200 calories🙀. For many people that is more than 70% of their daily calorie needs🤯. This means that if you DO go out to eat you will likely have to be severely restrictive in what you choose- no drinks, no sauces, no chips or breads, and boxing up about half your meal. Obviously this isn't impossible, but the desirable choice is far from the easier choice, and when you're trying to implement some behavior change you want to make the desirable choice as easy as possible. - If you are dining out 2 or more times per week it's important that you don't consider those meals as indulgent, and carefully monitor your intake for them 🧐. However, if you only go out to eat about once a week for date night, I say enjoy it and consider it that an untracked meal for your week🤗. Untracked meals can be AMAZING for your mental health and longevity with your plan. - Personally, I want to be able to go out to eat and order whatever sounds good 😋 without having to worry about if my meal is too many calories. For that reason, I opt to eat the majority of my meals at home 🏡 . - By eating the majority of your meals at home you’ll have far greater control over your calorie intake and be able to dine out worry free since it’s not a common occurrence. PLUS you’ll save so much money 💰it’s not even funny. 🙈😬

Consistency – something many of us struggle with and for our own reasons. We get sidetracked. We allow external forces to interfere. Life happens. We've heard it before – the most successful people make it a habit to make their bed every morning. Even those who are unemployed are encouraged to do this. People suffering with mental health problems too. Set a routine. Set a standard. Set some goals. If we do this in life we can surely do this in the gym too. If something is a priority you'll do it. If something is worth it you'll do it. If you really care about something you will make it happen. If you don't you can't blame anyone but yourself. Set realistic goals – many of us fall trap to the outcome goal. This often leads to failure. The focus should instead be on the process. Set a process goal and the outcome goal will eventually be reached. “I want to look like this in 3 months”. How do you do it? Obviously you need to have a solid program to follow(see previous posts about that...I have many on here) but you need to commit to the overall process. For example, set a goal of making it in to the gym 16 times in a month. No matter what. Sounds like a lot? For some yes but I see regular people in the gym everyday. They can do it. You can do it. So if you set the goal at 16 workouts in a month that's only getting your ass in there 4 times a week. If you miss a day one week you'll need to make it up to hit that goal of 16. Can't get to the gym? Do a workout at home. Busy with the kids. Do an activity with them. There really are no excuses not to make this happen. “Whatever you do, just don't sit still, constantly grow”. If you stay in bed all day nothing happens...and you never get to make that bed. Some people will always be in that bed. Don't become that person. Set a goal. Get a plan. Start the process. Be consistent. 👊💕
