We all know there's a gender wage gap, and I've previously shared with you about the gender investing gap. But did you know there's even a gender questioning gap???
A 2018 paper by a behavioral scientist studied academic events around the globe and found that women were 2.5x LESS likely to ask questions than men, despite being equally represented in audiences, on average, and no matter their experience or seniority.**
When asked why they kept quiet?
🐷"Not feeling clever enough"
🐷"Worried that I had misunderstood"
🐷 Didn't want to make speaker uncomfortable
🐷Or bother audience members
Ladies, hear me LOUD and CLEAR:
NEVER be ashamed of asking questions. It's how we learn. It is not an admission of inferiority, it won't hurt your reputation, and it's nothing to be embarrassed about. Never doubt your value or qualifications to be in the room - you wouldn't be there if you didn't deserve to be there.
Be brave. Ask questions. And ask them out in the open, so everyone can learn from the answer with you. I will never judge anyone for asking a question, nor will you make me uncomfortable. And every woman in this community is here to learn more, so you won't bother them either. Never stop learning!
Speaking of which, I've got answers to your most common tax questions from last week now up on the blog! You can find them at the direct link in my bio
