* REMEMBER WHY YOU STARTED.* . . It’s very easy in prep or even in life to lose focus on the end results. Sometimes getting to the finish line can be a struggle because there is so much you have to overcome on the way. Life throws curve balls all the time, they are unpredictable and come out of nowhere. What helps me get through it is remembering why I started. The love I have for the sport, the people in my life I don’t want to let down that motivate me and inspire me on a daily basis. It’s what makes me get up at 5 am and start my day. What gets me through my 2 hours of cardio and when I’m at my lowest on energy what makes me push through my workout. I appreciate the lows as much as the highs because we learn more from our lowest moments than our greatest. Take every life experience and focus on the positive side of it. The good and the bad. 4 months post pregnancy 🤰 Tomorrow!!! *This picture was last weekend 😎 Pilates has been one of the biggest gifts in my life. Throughout my pregnancy the only form of exercise that continued was Pilates (teaching classes) and light walking so the results I have are exclusively from Pilates and good nutrition 🍎 Pilates gave me a strong pregnancy- allowing me to have minimal back pain and to be able to feel good in my body to be able to work until 40 weeks pregnant. Pilates gifted me as the midwife tells me ‘a text book labour’ which is basically unheard of in this day and age I have been told. I’m very grateful for this. Pilates has made my baby strong. She had some resistance to kick against so she is incredibly strong and this will continue throughout her life. Pilates helped me recover post birth. From the trauma of labour to reconnecting to my core muscles to be able to lift my baby without resulting in a sore back to be able to move my whole house around with my hubby without strain 🏡 Pilates makes you strong for living life. 2014 -> 2019 💪🏼 • How did I achieve this? Consistency over time. Never giving up. Self belief. Self care/ respect. Educating myself about myself. • A lot of people look up to other fitness “influencers” and think “I can never achieve that”. Well guess what? We all start somewhere so you definitely can. 👏🏼 • 2010-2014 is when I struggled with my mental health the most. First major depression at 16, then bipolar hit me hard from the ages of 18-21. I was heavily medicated for a long part of 2013/2014 but still managing to work & get through uni (achieving good grades funnily enough - thankyou manic episodes, lol. I was really good at channeling my manic energy). Unfortunately during this period of time I gained a lot of weight from my medications & poor lifestyle. I was a heavy binge drinker, had awful sleeping habits (either not sleeping for days OR sleeping for days pending my mood). My mood eventually improved with the right medications & with improved insight into my illness thanks to CBT & DBT therapies. But the weight was still there which is when my Bulimia first showed it’s face. That’s a whole other story... lol. 🤦🏼‍♀️ • 2019 - I have great insight into my illnesses. My bipolar hasn’t been an issue for a few years now except for the odd depressive episode which I am quick to see my psychiatrist and get on top of. Bulimia is something I am still recovering from but have dedicated this year to working on that. It’s way harder than managing my bipolar as you can’t medicate eating disorders (bummer... lol). But it’s something I can overcome and I WILL overcome this. 😌😌 • You can achieve ANYTHING you set your mind to. 👊🏼 ... A diabetic has to learn to control their blood sugars through lifestyle changes & with appropriate medications. ... Someone with high blood pressure has to also control this through lifestyle changes & medications. • We need to stop viewing mental illness as such an isolated thing... it’s really no different to a physical illness. Take control. Educate yourself. Make positive lifestyle changes. Give yourself time to recover. Be kind to yourself. Be kind to your body. Love yourself - always. Never give up on yourself. ❤️

Do you have Anterior Pelvic Tilt?⠀ ⠀ Stretched your hamstrings and performed endless amounts of Glute bridges with no improvement? The issue is your most likely performing all of these exercises with excessive lumbar extension. (The butt rolling outwards and the lower lumbar facing inward) To correctly reverse this our goal needs to be to create a neutral spine and pelvic position so we can stretch and strengthen the correct muscles. Our focus should be on the hamstrings and abs to control the pelvis and position it correctly. This will take pressure from the spine and allow your glutes to actually work instead of your spine erectors. ⠀ ⠀ To put this into literal sense. Think about when you perform a deadlift, you feel you have perfect technique but your lower back always gets tight or sore. It can be that your pelvis is anteriorly tilted and you are in slight lumbar extension. Causing the spine erectors to work overtimeCorrecting your pelvis and spinal position whilst engaging your hamstrings and core will create true hip extension, allowing the glutes to work and eliminate undue stress on the low back.⠀ ⠀ So our focus today is about creating a neutral position through our pelvis and spine. While performing exercises that challenge and strengthen the hamstrings and abs/core. ⠀ ⠀ Exercises⠀ ⠀ 1. Hamstring holds - Keep abs engaged and don’t let the low back arch. Hold for 3-5 seconds or until the hamstring begins to cramp. ⠀ 2. Hamstring Bridges - Press vertebrae into floor. Bring your bum off first and hold neutral spine position. Hold for a second at the top. ⠀ 3. Copenhagen Crossover - neutral Spine. Press rib cage away from the floor and hold position for 10+ seconds⠀ ⠀ Add your strength work in.⠀ ⠀ 1. Trap Bar deadlifts⠀ 2. RDLs⠀ 3. Rack Pulls ⠀ 4. Hamstring Curls ⠀ 5. Hip thrusts⠀ ⠀ (Maintain Neutral pelvis and spine position at all times)⠀
