I have had people ask me what some of my biggest learnings have been in graduate school, and one of my favorites is this: In all relationships, you can save yourself a lot of time if you listen and communicate our needs. Most of us (including me) are not expert level communicators, which means our default is to complain or make indirect requests until we get our original needs met. This can be frustrating for not only the receiver of the communication but the person complaining, to begin with, because it can cause disconnection and leave the need unmet and the core issue unresolved. So, when we put listening for needs into practice, what does this look like? Example of a complaint: “We never go on dates anymore.” Want: A date. Need: It could be the person expressing a need for quality time. It could be that the individual needs a greater connection. The need could be feeling desired by their significant other. Healthy communication: “I’d like to go on a date with you this weekend. One on one time helps me feel more connected to you.” Most individuals are not taught how to ask for what they need, and some may not even know what their need is. Others may know what they want and need but do not communicate due to fear of not being met. This week try and identify the underlying need behind the requests or complaints people communicate to you. So now you’ve caught up with my journey TO accutane, welcome to the present...well nearly 🤷🏽‍♀️ This video is from when I finally started on Accutane at the beginning of this month. It’s a video I never planned on sharing, however, now tracking my journey on here, I’m grateful I always took my own videos and pictures (no matter how embarrassing and unflattering they are). 😅 The second and third photo were taken on the 8th February, showing my results from week ONE on Accutane. I automatically noticed how less angry my spots started to appear on my skin, especially on my cheeks. A lot of the redness had calmed down which then started to reveal what were actual spots and what was in fact heavy and red scarring. In only a week, my skin had definitely changed, more than I had expected it to in that small amount of time, but I always clung onto the idea that they had to get worse before they got better. Either way, small progress is always better than no progress. The dreaded side effects. I actually didn’t really experience any in week one, I was quite lucky and didn’t notice anything different in particular. (lucky me, it soon caught up with me in week 2 !!!🙃) I actually have been filming myself daily, relaying and tracking my skin, filling in with side effects etc when they appear. I did this for myself, but also with the possible intention of maybe eventually sharing. Just waiting for that burst of confidence to post and upload them, but I will keep you updated. Week ONE, over and out. 💛✨

📯WE HAVE MOVED INTO OUR DREAM YARD😍 📯• • After months of searching the horses and I have finally found a home with everything we were looking for, and more!• • We have been at Bedgebury for a few days now and the horses have settled very well. I am also living on site which I am LOVING. It has always been a dream to be able to see horses from my bedroom window!☺️ • • I had such a good day today; I rode 3 out of the 4 horses and exercised them all. I haven’t ridden Phoeb or Molly in months and they were good as gold. So I realised today how much facebook effects my anxiety! I found myself crippled again lately with everything that's on it. Nothing but doom and gloom. People bitching. Giving out. Todhunter Fitness: Leg Day today, started off with RDL's today and moved to a very narrow stance squat. Why so narrow, well I tend to feel my quads a lot more in this stance and I find I use more control and slow the tempo of the rep. It allows me to feel any weight displacement which causes that rotation in the squat we see so often and I feel it creates a more even repetition. It also causes a little more core to be involved as well. People look at me a little differently when I use this approach but it works for me . ✨The healing process begins with us✨ How often do we sit with our thoughts of our past and present moments where we felt hurt, abused, bullied, and pushed around, that we wish that person who caused that pain and that hurt just how badly we felt? I know I do. I’ll never forget being put in a group message with two “mean girls” in school who called me names, called me fat, and proceeded to tell me that no boy would ever want me because I was too fat....that was in the 5th grade. That was the first time anyone ever called me fat. That was the first time I heard rejection. If these girls only knew just how badly they hurt me and how their names pop up on Facebook and my skin would crawl. Do I wish I could tell them 20 years later that they hurt me? Maybe. But it doesn’t always work out that way. Sometimes relationships fall apart and we cannot get the apology we know we deserve. So what do we do? We learn to heal. We learn to accept that the hurt was nothing of our own faults. I know that the hurt that was put on me was based upon their own insecurities and the need to put me down because they did not like that I had tons of friends. I’ve worked with myself to heal through these unresolved feelings so I can move forward. In 2017, the year I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, post natal anxiety tore me apart and changed my life. I love this picture of me and Lewis, but if you look closely you’ll see my hairline is receding slightly. And for that reason it makes me feel sad. I know most people suffer from some hair loss after birth. But it reminds me of clumps of hair coming out in the shower, and finding hair all over my pillow when I got up which I’m sure was stress related. It reminds me of daily panic attacks, losing track of how many days I’d spent alone in the flat with a newborn, because I couldn’t even bring myself to go to the shops alone. Living in constant fear of another panic attack, and calling people at 5am asking them to stay on the phone to me in case anything happened to me. Because I was terrified something terrible was going to happen, and Lewis was going to be left in the flat alone all day. . . I know that unfortunately, this is all something so many people can relate to. So I’d like to share something with you all that I set up last year, with a vision to changing how we talk about, view, and act upon anxiety. Last year I came up with the idea for @wearecalmcollective, as a platform where I could share anything that’s helped me deal with my own anxiety, in the hopes that by sharing what works for me maybe it could help even one other person. I’m going to dedicate more time this year to post here regularly. But I have a vision that it could be so much more than just an Instagram account. I’d like to turn it into a blog. And then from there turn it into a movement, a movement that’s changing how we tackle anxiety, and creating a calmer world together. From my own experience, and from speaking to friends and family, it appears to me that the way anxiety is dealt with and the support that’s offered in modern society is at best wrong. And at worst totally inadequate. If you can relate to anything I’ve said give my page a follow, and let’s work towards finding solutions, and creating a calmer world together. You are not alone 💖

MENTAL HEALTH/SUICIDE AWARENESS • Did you know the 129 people commit suicide each day, that is about 5 people we lose an hour. In the year 2019 we lost 47,173 people to suicide. This is the 10th leading cause of death in America! It’s the 2nd most for people the age 15-34 and 4th most for people 35-54! What does Authenticity mean to you? I used to live in 'cognitive dissonance' where you're thinking something on the inside but behaving differently on the outside. I was lonely, anxious and isolated. I knew I needed to find a way of speaking about my feelings without worrying that I was going to upset someone, to express myself without fear of rejection or embarrassment. First I spoke to a friend. I was so relieved that I'd told someone how I truly felt. Slowly I started to speak my mind, set boundaries about what was and wasn't OK by me. My relationships started to change, friends became closer or more distant, my client base transformed and eventually my husband and I separated. I travelled, studied subjects that had fascinated me for years. I moved into the middle of the forest, worked with a psychotherapist ... And soon became fully aligned. I was free. A year ago I created my wellbeing consultancy: niu. It means 'bridge'. Because I wanted to support people to create the bridge between what they're thinking and feeling on the inside and what they're saying and doing on the outside. I'll be teaching an Introduction to Alignment at the retreat in May, where we'll explore the ideas behind creating an aligned life. I received a notification reminder that the picture I posted on the left exactly 2 years ago.. All I can say is WOW! Reflecting back 2 years ago, I was a completely different person. Countless days of drowning my depression in bottles of alcohol, greasy fast food, and drugs. Living an absolute unhealthy lifestyle! Deep down I did all the things I did to take the pain away from having lost my parents! I was overweight and the size of a balloon both in my stomach and face. I changed cause I was tired of living life that way. Taking the summer off after graduation was truly the best decision I made cause I learned to focus on myself. Isolating myself away from my family, friends and work helped me think about what I truly wanted in life, who I wanted in my life and find myself again. Here I am, today not only having lost weight, but I accepted my past and accepted the person I’m happy to be, learned to love myself again, and forgave myself! I’m living an healthy and authentic lifestyle always putting myself first before anyone else. Bettering myself physically, mentally and spiritually is my everyday non-negotiable! I’ve learned many life lessons in the past 5 years! The obstacles I faced and have overcame, brought me into the right direction! I didn’t know him but he was pretty high rate with me over something he did whilst he was driving, that to be fair- was his mistake. • I didn’t take his rudeness personally, but it did create a domino effect, propelled by negativity. • As my mind processed the injustice, his entitlement, his lack of regard for the inconvenience his mistake caused for me... I made loads of tiny mistakes, being preoccupied by my aggy mindset. • First, my partner overslept & I silently projected my sense of disregard onto him by interpreting his lateness to breakfast as a lack of care for me.
