Some followers need to remember these words and repeat each morning. Every trial we face is temporary. For now, we struggle and suffer; in time, our pains will lessen and fade. Even the longest and blackest of nights must be followed, eventually, by dawn. This too, shall pass. We will get through this if we isolate. We might be feeling depressed and down, but we are much more resilient than we credit ourselves. Most of what we’ve ever learnt to this point has come to us in periods of suffering; a relationship ending, giving a friend a hard time when they were trying to help, barking at someone innocent we care about, getting fired, messing up an interview, sending an email we regret. It helps put our past and future problems in perspective and shows us through absence the good things in our life that truly matter. Try to listen to your suffering; learn the lessons it can teach you. Don’t lock them up and block them out. That solves nothing, it just gives you problems later down the line. In reality, we are very robust. We need surprisingly little in our lives to get by, and can sustain an awful lot of hits and still, somehow, keep going. Focus on this; remind yourself of your ability to persevere. HEALING AN IMPAIRED MICROBIOME . . Please start with previous post before diving in here ☀️ (+ This is just a simplified guideline but here are some ideas that promote healthy gut bugs + therefore a healthy mind + body). . . . 🥬 1. Include as many different plants into your diet + go as plantbased as is possible for your body + mind. EAT THE RAINBOW. The more colours on the plate (not artificial!), the better. Cut out dairy as best you can. Incorporate lots of good fiber. + EAT ENOUGH. If this way of eating brings up restriction triggers; please consult with a nutritionist skilled in plantbased eating. . . 🍸2. Start the journey to cutting out alcohol + smoking . . 🍔 3. Cut out processed, fried + high sugary foods as much as you can. Remember this is not the military + you can snack every now + then but be mindful about it. . . 🏃🏽‍♂️4. Exercise: this is so important for your gut health - believe it or not. Varied exercising is best from a few simple squats, to HIIT workouts, to running, to power walking, to yoga, to stretching, to skipping etc (get creative + do what feels good + manageable for you) . . 🛏 5. Ensure you try your best to get 7-9 hours of sleep a day. . . 💦 6. Drink enough water! I have the calculations further down in my feed. . . ⚡️7. Stay away from “magic” costly health foods from the vegan shop that claim to fix you, or weight loss products etc. Trust simple foods, as close to their natural state as possible. These should be affordable, locally sourced, fair trade + in season. . . 🧘🏽‍♀️8. Manage stress. Download a meditation app, take moments in your day to be still, to observe what’s going on in your mind + body + take time to journal on things you’re grateful for. . . 🍴9. Add fermented foods + probiotics to your diet. More on that tomorrow! . . ✨10. More damaged guts may need more of a “reset”, cutting out more foods etc even if it’s just for a short time for the gut to heal. Let me know if you need info on this. What is UP my Fellow Humans!?! For this week’s open office hours, I thought I’d address some of the questions that are rolling in about the STAY @ HOME Self Care Challenge, which pops off next Monday! (Have you signed up yet?) Here are few important FAQs: #1 Do you need to purchase anything for this challenge? NO! All you need to effectively and fully participate is already in your home. I don’t even need to know what you have, because I know you have it already! This is the kind of self care that is manifested from within and does not require you secure ANYTHING FROM THE OUTSIDE WORLD. A) because true self care does not cost and B) because stay the F home we are social distancing! Also, the challenge is 100 percent free NO STRINGS ATTACHED. I just want you to have these tools in your wellness toolbox! #2 Do you have to have a Facebook account? Honestly NO. The rituals will be delivered predominately via email. So you can fully delve in on your own from just that platform. However, if you want to play along with the challenge and gain a sense of community, you will need to create a FB account. Completing the challenge and accompanying “rules” for each ritual will put you in the running to win a free session with yours truly! So, why not go for it!?! You can always keep the profile private and even delete once the challenge is up! #3 How long do the rituals take? Again, REAL self care does not need to be extravagant or grand. Rather it is the small, daily acts that we commit to and build upon that make the biggest impact. Most if not all of the rituals can be completed in about 15 mins! #4 Is this program just for women? NO! This program is for HUMANS! #5 What can I expect to feel like after? Honestly, you may feel nothing. But most people, once they start the journey within feel more calm and confident in the face of stress, more empowered in their abilities to pivot and adjust, as well as a greater sense of joy in their existence. But, it’s not a one and done. It does take continued practice and a sense of commitment to yourself. Good thing you’re worth all of that and more!

Believe it or not, there is such a thing as a good type of stress. There are two types of stress that humans experience: short term (hormetic) and long term (chronic). - This short-term stress is called “hormetic stress” and it can be very beneficial for long-term health. - Common examples of hormetic stressors include short stints of intense exercise (HIIT), cold and hot exposure such as infrared saunas and ice baths and antioxidant-rich foods such as Chaga mushroom, cacao and broccoli. - Humans have evolved to require these short bursts of stress to become more resilient, tolerant and adaptive. Hormetic stress also helps mitigate the damaging effects of the chronic "bad" stress. - Problems start to arise when this “stress signal” is constantly triggered from various sources–the environment, our emotions, relationships, work, deadlines, expectations, traffic, chemicals in our products, pesticides in our foods, lack of sleep–that we pass through the “adaptive” phase and fall into the exhaustion phase. - Chronic stress is the bad kind of stress. - Chronic stress constantly depletes us, breaks us down and causes our adrenals to go into over-drive Eventually they burn out which results in sickness or pending disease. - Additionally, chronic stress drives inflammation and throws our entire body out of balance (homeostasis). Our sex hormone production decreases, metabolism slows down, we can’t create cellular energy efficiently and our immune system is on constant alert thinking a life-threatening event is happening.
