Today, amongst all the stay-at-home orders, I'm visualizing my dream home 🏠. Somewhere I wouldn't mind staying all day, maybe even working from regularly.
If you know me, you know I'm into affirmations and visualizing. I know it sounds silly, but it helps, I swear.
No visualizing practice works, though, without some planning tools. And whether we like it or not, planning how we'll accomplish our goals means managing how we spend our money! This is called FINANCIAL PLANNING💸💫
And if you didn't know it yet, you already are a financial planner: your own. And put like that, learning how to save, budget, and invest seems a lot more interesting, doesn't it 🙃
The key to managing your finances well is to make it personal. We all have rent or debt to pay off, that's not personal. I'm talking about the financial dreams and goals that are specific to YOU, and you only.
Given the state of the economy, I know it may seem uninspiring or odd, to ponder outlandish finance goals. Especially if we're wondering how to make rent during a crisis. [More on this soon.]
But if you want to get better at managing your financial resources and get motivated to save for your needs, start with getting excited about the topic in general. This is my goal for you today. And that starts with your inner dreams and goals for your life and lifestyle, i.e. your financial wants.
To start, go for something much smaller than a dream home. The first thing I got really excited to save for was adult braces ($5,000).
Saving and budgeting can be fun, I promise. Once you get the hang of it, prioritizing your spending will get easier, and finally being able to buy something you really want feels great!
Before you know it, you'll be itching for the bigger things: A $5,000 emergency fund. A $10,000 car. A $20,000 wedding. A $80,000 fund for your children. And yes, your dream home.
Believe me, one day you WILL be able to afford it. Planning for it will help you afford it quicker. So today, just start with a simple list. What is it you want to afford? Starting small and with excitement is key 🗝
