It won't be long ... losing my tallest in the house status very soon 😳. . This kid is growing like a weed and his younger brother is hot on his heels! . Things I have been really concerned about with the boys lately: . ✴️ crazy moods. ✴️ sleeping in really late. ✴️ eating all day. ✴️ complaints of body soreness. . Initially I was hyper sensitive to potential mental stress with the current world 🌎 events .... but I then had to recognize that both boys are going through huge GROWTH SPURTS. . Right now it can be hard to see the Forest 🌳 for the trees 🌲 as they say. We are all walking around on egg shells fearing the worst. . We shouldn't. . Yes ... we should be aware of our surroundings. There are dangers out there. . But... ... Yes ... life continues to go on. Including growth spurts! . So today I am going to chill. My boys are healthy. I will just try to embrace that by the end of this social distancing both boys will have no clothes that fit them and man buns 🙊. . Sigh ... It is not that easy to achieve inner peace, as it takes time and persistence and courage I believe. Like when you actually decide you don't want to blame life anymore for things that happen to you, you actually don't try to blame anyone or anything at all, but you process, accept and let go. I think true inner peace is independent of external conditions and circumstances. It also means you truly know yourself and what you are capable of. And when you accept your body, you also get a chance to feel inner peace. Because you don't try anymore to look like somebody else, you love what you see. And the feeling of your body becomes weightless. But there are moments in life when even well preserved inner peace is not at peace! Because we are sensitive and vulnerable human beings ❤️ What can you do then? When you have a feeling that you cant cope anymore? Here few things that help me the most: Now, when you might feel anxiety and tension, try to take few deep breaths to keep yourself calm and strong during stressful times. "Escape" for a while. It's not quitting, it just means you are recharging your soul. Accept, forgive and let go. It will give your soul freedom. Slow down and limit multitasking. Try to see if maybe your problem is not as big as you think. Try not to have control over things that you can't control. I think for me it's the most challenging advice. Given that exercise is one of the very few things many of us can do outdoors here in the UK, plus, that we have plenty of indoor time to read, then now is a good time to read these books which I 100% recommend. I’ve first discovered about Sri Chinmoy and looked for his books after meeting Sanjay Rawal who produced the very inspiring 3100 Miles film (thank you @mrsanjayr 👍🏻). . You might be surprised of the benefits of such a ‘simple’ practise such as running, both mentally and also physically (you don’t have to batter yourself but it is actually self care). “Focus on what you can control, not on what you can’t” How is everyone right now? As we find ourselves in these uncertain times it’s easy to get caught up worrying excessively, especially about things out of our control. I know with Covid-19 and lockdown there’s so much uncertainty in the world, we are having to learn new was to navigate our lives at this time. Suffering with anxiety myself I know how easy it is to start overthinking and worrying excessively about outcomes I actually have no control over, so I find it helpful to remember to FOCUS ON WHAT I CAN CONTROL As we all face individual concerns during these times, be that related to health, financial, food, family, friends and loved ones, I thought I’d share this helpful focus with you. FOCUS your time and energy on the things you can control, to help you do this: 1 - Determine What You Can Control You can’t control how someone else behaves, but you can control the way you react. You can’t control if you or a loved one ends up ill, but you can prepare for this. For example by following the Government and World Health Organisation guidelines you know that you have done what you can to help minimise the risks. 2 - To Focus On Your Influence Think about your behaviour. Be a good role model and make sure you set healthy boundaries for yourself. 3 - Identify Your Fears Acknowledge your fears and what you’re afraid will happen. Sometimes the worst case scenario may not be as bad as you fear. Then focus on problem solving instead. Is your thinking productive. 4 - Manage Your Stress Take care of yourself by exercising, eating healthy, get plenty of sleep. Try meditation, mindfulness, connect with friends and family (during this time we can phone them, use FaceTime, or try a group meeting on Zoom), take up a hobby. 5 - Affirmations Find a positive or healthy affirmation to help your mental wellbeing. I’m glad to say that the 7.30am time for the live stream seems to be working much better and whilst it’s not my favourite time of the day to practice yoga - it is getting me up and really helping to set me up for today. Remember it stays up for 24 hours so you can do it when it suits you. Today I want to focus on the dos and don’ts of the first part of Awkward Pose. We have four photos today - showing it from face on and side on. In all postures work less depth and more precision. Photo 1 - Do keep the arms straight and actively stretching Do lift the chest to create a backbend Do keep the weight more back to the heels so the knees are above the toes not forward Photo 2 - Don’t round the back and tuck the tailbone under Don’t push the weight forward on the toes and cause the knees to go forward of the toes Don’t collapse the arms and tense the shoulders Photo 3 - Do keep feet and knees the same width distance Do keep the arms shoulder width and actively stretching forward Do keep shoulders relaxed and neck long and visible Photo 4 - Don’t turn the toes out and roll in on the arches Don’t let the knees collapse inwards Don’t raise the arms high and out or bend the elbows Don’t sink you neck down into your shoulders. Happy practicing with all those points in mind! This is why it is beneficial to practice in front of a mirror so you can see your mistakes and correct them. Are you kind to yourself? I used to be really unkind to myself. It’s a weird protection that many of us do, and then it becomes a habit. ✨ To change a habit takes time, consistency, courage. And commitment. ✨ I realised it doesn’t make you selfish, self centred or arrogant to be kind to yourself. Something which many of my clients say the fear becoming. That’s our choice. We can be kind to ourselves and others, this creates a depth of compassion & connection far greater than if you’re just kind to others. ✨ I get it a scary, I really do. But how about giving it a go? Tweaking your internal language like a black & white movie, turning into gradually into a colourful present day picture. Worry, concern, fear, doubt - overthinking in any form - fuels negativity and does more harm than good. Do yourself a favour; give yourself a break and let things go. Loosen your grip, release the need to control or the quest to work everything out and to know the hows and whys of everything. Surrender to what is, drop any resistance and let things take the course they are meant to take.
