Considering the current situation we are all in, now may be a great time to build equity into your home by completing those ‘honey do’ lists or by starting a new project. We are all spending long days within and on our properties - perhaps giving that lawn or room a simple change can help weather the days ahead.
It is an undeniably restorative feeling to start the spring with a clean, fresh space. De-cluttering can certainly help make you feel accomplished and bring you a sense of peace.
Try tackling closets. Cluttered wardrobes are out and capsule wardrobes are in! This means sticking with basic items that work well with each other, as opposed to keeping clothing that is out-of-style, rarely if ever worn or has simply seen better days.
The first step to cleaning out your closet is removing every. single. item. Next, select a clothing type. Start with your shoes, then sweaters, t-shirts, denim and so on. Now, holding each item, ask yourself three questions:
Do I love it?
Do I wear it?
Does it fit?
If you answered “no” to any of the questions above, chances are it’s time to bid farewell to what’s in your hand. For many, closet space is at a premium, so once you’ve decided which items you’re keeping, think about where it makes the most sense to store each category of clothing. Reserve the front and middle of your closet for everyday and work wear while neatly tucking any least-used items in the back. Bins and baskets are an efficient solution to storing accessories such as belts, scarves and handbags.
