My little birdie @shelbygstripling is flying the coop, off on her new adventure (wherever it may take her) along with newfound gym confidence. When she first came to me about 8 weeks ago, her goal was to feel comfortable working out in a gym, using the equipment and learning which exercises would be best for her to do. We did minimal-equipment workouts to ensure she could take her knowledge to nearly any gym. In the 8-week process, she not only lost body fat and gained muscle, but her confidence grew and that growth is greater than any muscle. - Runners avoiding injury - tibial rotation. - What some people may not know is the knee can rotate both internally and externally. - Here I’m using my hands as an external cue, making sure the top of the big shin bone moves and controlling the movement whilst driving my heel into the floor. Key here is to not move the ankle and not the knee. You’ll need to concentrate! - Even though there’s only a small amount of rotation, training it can help prevent injuries such as Achilles tendonopathy. - Since the rotation includes the femur and tibia bones, it’s hugely connected to the hips and ankles; meaning poor hip and ankle mechanics may actually be the cause of knee pain. - #puregymipswich #injurytherapy #pain #injury #personaltraining #mobility #flexibility #tibialrotation #runners #running

For todays fitness tip I wanted to focus on an exercise that use the whole body as a unit, the 𝐁𝐀𝐑𝐁𝐄𝐋𝐋 𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃 𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐒🏋️‍♂️ The barbell over head press is a functional exercise that is constantly overlooked! This exercise is 𝐏𝐎𝐖𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐔𝐋 in building a strong core & defined shoulders.🙌 *When pushing the weight above your head you 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 engage your core to ensure you don’t tip over. If you perform this exercise, you will be helping build what are called “𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔”. Despite how that sounds, believe me this is a good thing! This exercise will create some 𝑺𝑻𝑹𝑶𝑵𝑮 looking delts!😌🔥 It will also help strengthen your performance on a bench press! Involve this 𝒃𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒍𝒚 & 𝒉𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒍𝒚 𝒆𝒇𝒇𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆 exercise into your programming and don’t overlook it anymore. Both men and women can benefit from this greatly! Rear-delt focused shoulder day. Manipulating the angles and switching it up is paramount when targeting shoulders. - 1. Cable Face Pull: 4 sets of 12-15 w/ 45s rest. Your shoulders and elbows should be inline the entire time or your elbow just barely slightly above. Pull until both arms are inline and slowly back down about 70% the way. Then straight back and hold and squeeze. - 2. Incline Rear Delt Row: 4 sets of 12-15 w/ 45s rest. Your shoulder joint and elbows should be inline when at the top. Keep that position angle while you slowly descend until about 70% the way down then straight back up. Keep that tension. - 3. Incline Rear Delt Row into Press: 4 sets of 15-20 w/ 60s rest. My favorite from this workout. Works all heads making it a great overall shoulder developer. Row up with the same form as the last but then rotate the dumbbells until they are in pressing position. Then press overhead. - 4. Lateral Raise: 4 sets of 15-20 w/ 45s rest. Start lowering the weight when you can’t reach the rep range with the low rest in between. Slightly bend over and have a slight bend at the elbow. Keep tension the entire time, don’t go higher than shoulder height and don’t let the dumbbell come back to touch your leg. THE PT CHRONICLES PART 6: SURVIVAL, PERCY PIGS AND AN INDECENT PROPOSAL Everything was going swimmingly. I was rocking it at Bootcamp Pilates. My PT client base was starting to increase, word had got out about this guy and his TRX. Sophie and I were constantly trying to find new and improved ways of removing each other’s clothing (Also, you won’t believe this but I’m actually typing this in White City House, London and she’s just walked past.) Career tick, money tick, sex TICK. Only one negative. Trying to fit sleep on either side of all this. I would wake up at 5 am to enable me to arrive at Bootcamp Pilates (BP) at 6 am to open the studio ready for the 630am class. I’d teach 3 classes back to back then I’d have a 2-hour break which I booked a PT client into. I’d then head back to BP to teach the afternoon block and then finish with 3 PT clients in the evening. I’d then head to Sophies, tear off her clothes, lift her against the wall, ravage her before her boyfriend returned home, then head home and watch a movie. Then repeat. I was young and full of it but my sleep and nutrition did not meet the physical demands. I was cracking. I would find sleep ANYWHERE I could. Survival was paramount. We’ve all crept under a desk at work, leant against a wall, a quick couch nap. Well, my desk became the world. I was sleeping in my car. If a traffic warden bothered me I would let the back seats down and climb into the boot just to get 20 minutes power nap. No, I’m not kidding. I’d sleep on the tube, on the benches at the station. Once, I fell asleep standing up whilst a client was boring the eyebrows off my face in a plank. I have a friend, Matthew, who has a saying ‘She could put a glass eye to sleep’. That was her chat level. I was barely surviving physically with zero intention of slowing up. I took on evening slots at BP on Thursdays because I was utterly obsessed with packing out their classes and being the best. Obsession in your profession is amazing, it’s what makes you become the best. Anyway, each time this evening class was rolling around I was already fucked from a day of training. A client spotlight for #FlashbackFriday ✨ My lovely client Julia came to me in Autumn last year looking for some help. She had spent the majority of the year really unwell with anorexia and had started her recovery process shortly before starting training with me. With the mental challenge of giving her body the nutrients and repair that it needs, Julia wanted to put the extra fuel towards something 💪🏻 . To see the change in this girl to happy & healthy is truly amazing; she has put her all into healing her body & mind, regardless of how challenging it has been. She has not once complained and takes everything in her stride with such a positive mental attitude. . This has been one of my most rewarding transformations to date and it’s been a pleasure training Julia. Not only does she look amazing, her skin has gone from grey to glowing (I’m sure she won’t mind me saying this 😝) and her frown is now a smile she wears proudly every day. Mentally, her confidence has grown and she has started to value herself as the amazing woman that she is. She is also getting insanely strong and smashing all her lifts 👊🏻 . Well done Julia, you should be so proud - this is only the beginning so keep up the good work and I can’t wait to see you continue to achieve & accomplish even more 😊

"Stand up straight!” That's the instruction we've probably all heard at some point. Good posture is essential to balance. This also helps you maintain proper form while exercising, which results in fewer injuries and better muscle building. Chances are you do a lot to impair your posture during the course of an average day: reading a book with your head down, sitting at a computer, or being on your phone. Exercises that target the upper body, arms, back + abdomen are likely to benefit your posture by strengthening the muscles that help to hold you upright. In addition to doing exercises to strengthen muscles and improve flexibility, also be conscious of your posture, and pull yourself upright whenever you notice that you are starting to slouch.

Welcome to the @hlcbu Neil Mcquarrie!! . Neil contacted me after discussing with his daughters about becoming more physically active. . Neil has been living life for 83 years!! ⭐FORM FOCUS FRIDAY ⭐ - So, there are dozens of deadlift variations and if you're working on that🍑 the stiff legged versions are great for really targeting the glutes. - I'm a big fan of doing single leg exercises as most people tend to have a weaker/stronger side when it comes to legs and glutes. If you never do single leg exercises your stronger side can take over, or help out the weaker side meaning it never really develops. - The single leg Romanian Deadlift (RDL), is a really great exercise IF you have the balance and core strength to do it. If you don't it just becomes and exercise is not falling over! - So if you struggle with the single leg RDL, try the B-stance or Kickstand RDL. FRONTAL LINE MOBILITY - THE BRIDGE . Brücke als Mobility-Übung für die vordere Kette!⁠⠀ Mobilität bedeutet, auch Kraft in der Beweglichkeit zu haben. Deshalb ist Mobility-Training in der Regel auch etwas anstrengend!⁠⠀ Eine wunderbare Übung für die gesamte vordere Kette ist die Brücke: Quadrizeps, vordere Hüfte, Bauch, Brust, Lat, Trizeps, uvm.⁠⠀ Keypoints:⁠⠀ - Füße erhöhen, sodass die Schultern über den Handgelenken sind (jep - ich hätte die Füße ruhig erhöhen sollen!)⁠⠀ - Hände schulterbreit und Ellbogen gestreckt⁠⠀ - Schultern innenrotiert und kraftvoll eleviert⁠⠀ - Bauch und Po leicht gespannt⁠⠀ - Füße drücken in die Box/den Boden und schieben das Brustbein und die Hüfte in den Bogen⁠⠀ - 3 mal 30 Sekunden sind ein guter Start⁠⠀ Wenn bestimmte Bereiche besonders fest sind, lohnen isolierte Stretches davor. Πολλές φορές ψάχνεις να βρεις απαντήσεις από τους άλλους. Οι άνθρωποι έχουν την τάση να αποθαρύνουν το νέο, το καινούργιο και ακόμα περισσότερο το άγνωστο προς αυτούς. Άλλες φορές το κάνουν επειδή σ αγαπούν και φοβούνται μην αποτύχεις και πληγωθείς και άλλες μην πετύχεις αυτό που δεν κατάφεραν αυτοί. ⠀ ⠀ Όποιος κι αν ειναι ο λόγος από εσένα εξαρτάται η συνέχεια προς τον στόχο σου. Μια συνέχεια με εμπόδια που θα χρειαστεί να έχεις πειθαρχία, να αναπτύξεις την υπευθυνότητα. Και κυρίως: να κάνεις πράγματα τα οποία δεν έχεις κάνει ξανά έως τώρα. Με άλλα λόγια να βγεις από τη ζώνη άνεσης σου. Να αλλάξεις δέρμα.⠀ ⠀ Πολλές φορές συναντώ ανθρώπους που θέλουν να χάσουν βάρος και γενικώς να βελτιώσουν την εμφάνιση τους, να βρίσκουν φθηνές δικαιολογίες (περνάω δύσκολα, δεν εχω χρόνο, δεν με στηρίζουν κ.α.).
