~E M O T I O N~
I'm finally realising that all emotions are sacred and fearing them less and less, even the ones I once saw as really ugly. Nothing is out of place, useless, or embarrassing. I see them for what they are; messangers. Emotions are merely messangers. They don't define us, or own us. They're all telling us something, often giving us a call to action about the aspects of our lives that we need to look at or make changes in. Without them we wouldn't grow, change and move forward- this goes for both the good and not so good feelings.
When we were kids, we were taught how to process them and what to make of them. This isn't necessarily what works for us now as adults. No one told us that moving into adulthood would mean that we have to re-regulate our emotions for ourselves. The more I observe my responses to them, the clearer this becomes. The meaning certain emotions used to have for us isn't necessarily the meaning it has today. But our heavy emotional patterns from the past cause us to see them the same way.
This is why when negative emotions come up, we get so stuck in a rut with them. And without understanding, we're left so scared to even look at them. But emotions aren't scary. If we are willing to lean into them and feel them, we can take the time to label them, and understand where they're coming from. When we understand something, we no longer have to fear it.
We can detach from it and realise that we are not our emotions, and thet aren't permanenant. It's just something we're feeling here and now carrying a message. This can hopefully stop us trying to control our emotions. So much mental and emotional pain and turbulance comes from not the emotion itself, but rather us not understanding it, holding on to it and then trying to control it.
Freeing ourselves from the weight starts with being aware, because there is so much lodged in our deep patterns of familiarity. Leaning in, labeling, understanding and accepting them, I've been finding them a lot less heavy to carry.
Much love 🧡
