Rewriting the business model is really engaging the part of my brain that will see me sat at a kitchen table for 6 hours straight playing a world domination strategy board game with my pals. Yeah that’s not where I thought this post was going either but here we are 🤷🏽‍♀️😂 If you’ve ever played an epic game of Risk or something similar you’ll know how it feels when you’re a good few hours in, you’re super invested in the game but also you’re bum went numb a while ago, you’d quite like to be asleep, you’ve changed strategy three times already, you have no idea if it’s even winnable and you’re going to need a lot of snacks to see it through to any conclusion. I ate my last bag of hula hoops yesterday and I’m not psychologically ready to go to the supermarket again for a least another week, so learning to bake has all of a sudden become a very real part of my business plan if I’m going to achieve my life long dream of becoming Queen Bee 👑🐝 First of Her Name, Ruler of all the Paper Flower Kingdoms. Also, in case you suddenly feel like you don’t know who I am anymore, I'll just clarify this is not the dream. More quick tips for those new to working from home: 1. Master the Mindset! Free yourself from thinking you need to work the same way you used to. Can you be more flexible with your hours so you work when you are at your best? Focus on productivity and quality of output rather than hours. What outcomes are you aiming for? What timelines? 2. Start with the hardest or least liked tasks first! Put on your noise cancelling headphones or your favourite background music, and get it done early. 3. Make your work-space aesthetically pleasing with minimal distractions (e.g. no TV, and washing up out of sight) 4. Get dressed! As tempting as it is to stay in your PJs to work, it does not get you in the right mindset 5. Take breaks. Our brains are wired to work best in 30-45 minute chunks. DAY 17 STRENGTHEN THE NECK⁣ ⁣ No more Forward Head Posture (FHP) please!! – It’s unhealthy and goes a long way to determining how many vital years you will enjoy.⁣ ⁣ “It’s not the load that breaks you, it’s how you carry it.”⁣ ⁣ There are dozens of reasons why FHP is extremely damaging to your future health. Here’s 5 biggies:⁣ ⁣ 1️⃣ Hastens Aging (reduced lifespan)⁣ ⁣ 2️⃣ Decreased Oxygen⁣ ⁣ 3️⃣ Faster Spinal Degeneration (Arthritis).⁣ ⁣ 4️⃣ Less Energy⁣ ⁣ 5️⃣ Decreased Immune Response.⁣ ⁣ Also, it really LOOKS BAD!!!!⁣ ⁣ FHP starts early nowadays. It needs recognizing and correcting.⁣ ⁣ If you have a computer life, then these exercises are non-negotiable if you want to be healthy later on in life.⁣ ⁣ Reduce FHP either of 2 ways (I do them both).⁣ ⁣ 1️⃣ Using an elastic resistance band, create a forward force that you have to resist. Even better, pull your head straight backwards as far as you can on your shoulders. No extending (tilting backwards). Yes, if you are making double chins you are doing it right. 😉⁣ ⁣ Do it for maybe 5 seconds, five times a day. After a few weeks you’ll be aware that your head is coming back and you are looking better and feeling better. BTW I got my resistance band from Decathlon.⁣ ⁣ 2️⃣ When driving I have trained myself to use this time for postural neck exercises. When I stop at the lights I often press my head back into the head restraint until we go again. After I do this, my head is literally stuck to the head rest for a while, so I absolutely know it has done me some good and woken up those postural muscles. Just a year and a half ago I had a very different life I worked in an office - I worked to make enough money to go travelling wherever I could It was a good life, and I'm ultimately grateful for it, but like most, it was a phase That phase taught me exactly what I wanted more of in life, and what I wanted less of Which brings me to now. It's a strangely incredible thing to be growing through significant changes in an all so strange time and still feel oddly serene when I wake up at 3 am just wanting a homemade doorstep sandwich 😅 - I'm definitely feeling the strain a bit more at times but overall I am feeling extremely lucky to have got this far in my pregnancy and been able to pretty much continue my normal daily routines. Bar a pause here and there or a very 'hangry' moment, it's been a pretty smooth ride so far and I'm going to try to start winding down soon as I move into the last 2 months of this journey. The NHS and the HCPC has called for all Doctoral students only left with ammendments to thesis to temporarily be given their registration, so that they can use the protective title to best serve this current Covid19 situation. As a result, I'll be trying to help where I can and also take some time to try to ramp up speed on the thesis ammendnents to try to keep the title and avoid the usual 6 month to a year beurocratic process! What ever you are doing to make the best out of this chaos, keep at it you are doing great! DAY 16 - HOW DO YOU START THE DAY?⁣ ⁣ Set your intention for the day.⁣ ⁣ FIND THE CALM! SEEK THE POSITIVE!⁣ ⁣ Emotions create your thoughts.Thoughts create your actions.Actions create your reality!⁣ ⁣ Therefore EMOTIONS CREATE YOUR REALITY!⁣ ⁣ YOU control your emotions – Don’t let events or people that you can’t control affect how you feel. ⁣ Always a big challenge for me and something that I know I have to continuously work on. I’m an emotional person and always will be. It’s not a weakness; it’s a strength. It helps me connect with, and find empathy with those around me. But, if emotions control my actions it can become a weakness. ⁣ ⁣ So, awareness and being more conscious, more in control of my thoughts, is now on my list as something I fully intend to ritualize.⁣ ⁣ I’ve been practicing it for years, starting the day ‘intentionally’ and when I do the day is better. Awright y’all. Time to get ready for IM Texas 70.3 virtual challenge. All athletes registered for the race should consider putting their hard work and training to good use next Sunday, April 05! You can do this in the confinement of your shelter in place and replace the swim with resistaband workout (as long as you anticipate swimming), followed by a spin and either treadmill or appropriately socially distant outside run. As for me, I’ll be rowing (32 min), spinning 2h28 (that’d be slower by 2-3 min than last 3 rehearsals) and running on the Galveston seawall for 13.1 miles. Will count on @ajlouchouarn for aid station refill during the run and may post to FB Live during the “race”. The goal is still there: #BreakFive. WEEK 3 UPDATE⁣ ⁣ With all the uncertain times caused by COVID-19 and the enforced lockdowns and curfews, this is a perfect opportunity to take stock and make a few #healthychanges. ⁣ ⁣ Easy to do, with massive impact, it doesn’t take long to see real progress, improving strength & resilience and helping our vital immune system protect us from disease.⁣ ⁣ You can start adding changes whenever you like. The trick is just to start and then take one small step at a time. 🙏🏻 ⠀⠀ Anyone forcing themselves into ‘help’ mode yet noticing the deeper pull to go with the flow; to hibernate, reassess and recalibrate? ⠀⠀ // It’s a tricky space to be in when all positive voices are helpful in this collective fear bubble, but all the signs are saying, not now, don’t force it, save your energy. A flower blooms exactly when it is ready. 🌱 ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ I’ve been feeling this for a while actually, since before Christmas, but COVID-19 has brought it to the fore all the more... ⠀⠀ // ⠀⠀ It’s nice to know that World will carry on quite happily without me if I take 1 week, 1 month or even 1 year out. (There were times when my ego wouldn’t have accepted that!) Not just continue but actually rejuvenate and heal as Mother Earth is doing now. // Amazing to see how flowing with what is arising and not forcing the same dying paradigm is having all kinds of positive natural outcomes. ⠀⠀ // ⠀⠀ When I honour my inward swing of the pendulum, towards silence, I actually create space for new ideas to naturally arrive within my consciousness. // The real test of the mind is to fully TRUST that the upward swing of the pendulum will arrive. Only then can I truly rest and reap the rewards of slowing down. ⠀⠀ // ⠀⠀ When I force myself to deliver offerings to the World when I am not ready the result is always half baked... and my nervous system foots there bill. ⠀⠀ // ⠀⠀ Time to go with the flow and pause with the Earth. Very grateful that I have the means and time to do this while others (key workers etc) who may want time to reflect are not able to. ⠀⠀ // ⠀⠀ Anyone else feeling called to really go onwards and disconnect for a few weeks? DAY 15 – ADD HANDSTANDS⁣ ⁣ Who dares to try their hand?⁣ ⁣ Easy for some and intimidating for others, handstands are fun and simple once mastered. All you need is a little wall space. (Watch out for dirty shoes on the wall :) ⁣ ⁣ Maybe start with someone to guide you up and steady you as you will be a bit wobbly to start with.⁣ ⁣ BE CAREFUL!⁣ ⁣ TIP: Practice on a soft surface like grass or a mat, not on concrete!⁣ ⁣ Remember, these are just the 20 little #microchanges that I am adding to MY DAILY ROUTINE. If it’s not for you, choose something else. For example a great exercise for grip and upper body strength is simply ‘hanging.’⁣ ⁣ How do handstands help?⁣ ⁣ 1️⃣ They Build Core Strength - Because they require you to stabilize your muscles to stop you falling, handstands not only work your abs, they also strengthen your hip flexors, hamstrings, inner thigh muscles, and spinal muscles to create a balanced, super-strong core.⁣ ⁣ 2️⃣ Create a super strong Upper Body – strengthening pretty much every muscle in your arms, shoulders, and upper body, making them one of the most beneficial upper body exercises you can do.⁣ ⁣ 3️⃣ Great for improved balance - you need to be able to control your muscles and make constant adjustments in order to maintain your balance.⁣ ⁣ ........... and more!⁣ ⁣ Do handstands often, and you’ll notice you feel stronger and more confident in no time.⁣ ⁣ Today I started back with a 10 second handstand but I shall gradually increase this to 30 seconds.⁣ ⁣ What do I especially love? DAY 12 - STAYING OFF DAIRY⁣ ⁣ SO MANY REASONS!⁣ ⁣ It’s difficult to get healthy milk nowadays. Most comes with the antibiotics and hormones given to the cows to keep them healthy and producing milk. YUK!!⁣ ⁣ Milk is acid producing - so the body leaches minerals from your bone to neutralize the acidity. This is a major cause of OSTEOPOROSIS! (Fact!)⁣ ⁣ The majority of people are a little lactose intolerant, some way more than others.⁣ ⁣ Me? It makes me more mucousy and blocks my sinuses. FACT… When I gave up, I STOPPED SNORING! (My wife literally thought I’d died in my sleep - it’s true!)⁣ ⁣ I simply know it doesn’t work for me. 👎⁣ ⁣ Milk also associated with allergies, prostate & ovarian cancer, acne, high cholesterol & saturated fat, and WEIGHT GAIN!⁣ ⁣ I’ve been completely #dairyfree at different times of my life, always with enormous health benefits. I keep going back to it, but now I’m ritualizing it.⁣ ⁣ I shall get all the calcium I need mostly from leafy greens and fortified almond, soya, rice and oat milks.⁣ ⁣ But I love chocolate and cheese!!!!! This is my weakness so I will take tiny amounts on special occasions with a 10 press-up off-set 😂. As we’re all aware, the world has changed quite rapidly since I last posted on Instagram. In a week, myself and other artists I know have gone from hardworking, multitasking freelancers, sprinting across London from one job to the next, to a life inside four walls, as we all step into a void of pretty dim prospects and cancelled futures. I’m sorry to announce that Outside’s London premiere has been cancelled until further notice, as well as our Brighton Fringe run in accordance with both Brighton and London Climate Change Festivals’ decisions to postpone (still unsure about EdFringe2020, which stands to go ahead for the moment, but I’ll keep you updated). It’s likely I will not be on your screens or stages for a while, and that I won’t get to bump into any of you at events we’d all hoped would bring us together in the next few months. I truly will miss you all during this time. However, now is also a time of change. We have an opportunity here to reshape how we see life, how we build and interact within our communities, and are suddenly faced with infinite opportunities to help one another. I have been dumbfounded by the unstoppable efforts and sacrifices of the NHS, the kindness of my neighborhood, the unwavering support and strength of my local church, and the resilience of my family and friends. Whilst we all live through some strange dystopian lifestyle (it’s almost like I’ve written it…) we are all together, and able to reach each other, and take a step back. While London stands still, let’s rebuild relationships and communities that are struggling, and come back stronger than ever. Here’s to exploring life on pause, and remembering that whilst human life feels quite chaotic right now, the natural world is enjoying a little more peace than it was before. I’ll be thinking of you all, whether you’re in isolation, struggling financially, stranded somewhere you shouldn’t be, or recovering from the virus itself, remember - you’re not alone, and I’m here for any of you, as I hope we all are for each other. DAY 11 .
