Follow your nose — After visiting the Aēsop store along Tokyo’s Meguro River I was about to head back on the train when I spotted a warm light further up the street. Instinct had me walking towards it before I’d even thought otherwise, and it turns out that just beyond the light was a small art installation / pop up space. Inside, I was approached by @l.day.c who said he had seen me just a few days ago at the Tsutaya book store. Travelling through Tokyo, it had been the first day in the city for both of us, and here we were again days later stood in front of each other. The pop up showcased a range of collaboration products with brand @armesarmesarmes and I was carefully taken through each, ending with a fragrance that stopped me dead in my tracks. Taking in such a unique, incomparable blend of notes, I was then told it had been produced by designer @pcdiy and the perfumer behind Aēsop’s signature scents, @barnabefillion So particular with fragrance, I’m hard-pressed finding ones I would ever want to wear. But Équilibre had me captivated for its depth, complexity and skill of the craftsmen who had brought it to life. Created in a limited run of sample-size bottles and unavailable for regular retail purchase, the journey of how I came to find it certainly meant I didn’t leave without one in hand. — Key notes: tomato leaf, plum, vetiver, graphite, suede and cedar smoke.
