Still hasn’t sunk in that this is home. I hope it never does 🙃 This hike started right in town, literally 5 minutes from our house, and we climbed around 1300’ - so cool getting to train FOR the mountains...IN the mountains. Anxious to see how much better I feel come Fall season! #DoesItGetAnyBetter#Wanderlust#SunsetHike#Followherarrow#PinchMe
“Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice.” -Steve Jobs
I’ve felt anxious all week at the thought of releasing this film. After laying low for several months, this is about as loud as I can be and it’s scary as hell. It feels like I’m standing naked in front of a crowd, which is slightly paralyzing.
I debated asking @bloodorigins not to publish it, then realized that doing so would drown out my own inner voice. I am a hunter, I am a woman, & I enjoy sharing what’s real for me. It may be “too much” for some - too controversial, too emotional, too transparent, too girly, too amateur, too this, too that. BUT IT IS WHO I AM AND I’M NOT SORRY FOR THAT. It got me to where I am, which is the happiest I’ve been in years.
Thank you for the flood of texts, comments, messages, reposts - thank you for all of the positivity. Lastly, thank you to Blood Origins for your time and dedication to this project. You all bring me sunshine ☀️ Y’all make me smile. Y’all are the ones that matter. Much love 💚 #Followherarrow
How much hunting gear is too much? Asking for a friend.
On another note, I work out for my sanity, and for the past two days of not being able to go to the gym, I’ve been clenching my jaw and grinding my teeth pretty bad, paired with feeling anxious and sluggish. This was only a 20-25 minute workout tops and I didn’t sweat (just got warm), but it still made a huge difference for me mentally! 👇🏻
10 minute run
-10 Single Leg lunges (each leg)
-40 alternating box steps? Literally have no idea what these are called and I’m not a trainer soooo 🤷🏼♀️
-30 mountain climbers
-30 bicycle crunches
P.S. I really, really miss lifting weights. But this is also a reminder that a light 20 min workout to clear your mind is just as important as a 60-75 min workout pushing your physical limits. Listen to your body! 👊🏻 #BetterThanYesterday#MoveYaBody#Followherarrow
Full disclosure: I planned on doing 5 rounds but Braxton showed up with cookies. What’s better than that? I’ll wait. #CookieMonster#ImOut
It feels like a loaded question when someone asks, “Why do you hunt?” but it’s also one of the most important questions to be able to answer as a hunter in today’s world. Know your why, and don’t let anybody make you feel bad if that answer evolves over time. Mine certainly has! ➳
This is something I mentioned on stage to 400 kids for the @outdoorstomorrowfoundation and Youth Wildlife Conservation Experience back in January. Nobody asked me at their age why I hunted, but I also didn’t have a phone or social media like they do. I touched on some of the common answers that we hear - Food, Conservation, Camaraderie, among several others, in hopes that they become more clear of what it means to be an outdoorsman, and reminded them that it’s ok if your answer is a little different than the next. #PassItOn#ProudHunter#Followherarrow#ItsInTheBlood // 🎥: @bloodorigins
✨Crockpot Elk Roast✨
...continued from my last post 😊The simplest recipe ever!!
▫️2-3lb Elk Roast
▫️1 - large sweet onion
▫️1 - 7oz can of diced green chilies
▫️Seasonings - we used garlic powder and “Fully Loaded” by @reloadrub
▫️3 cups beef broth
Note #1: I intentionally didn’t include some numbers above because we rarely measure at the “Byers Homestead” and it’s hard to mess up a roast.
1. Pat roast dry and season (don’t hold back here), then place in a ziplock bag with a Worcestershire/soy sauce mixture. Let sit overnight in fridge.
2. Chop veggies up, but not small - keep them chunky!
3. Place roast in crock pot
4. Dump chopped veggies and can of green chilies on top of roast
5. Pour beef broth over the top (we use water + bouillon cubes instead)
6. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours
Note #2: I’m sure I missed a step in there somewhere because I’m not a professional wild game chef but let me know if you use the recipe and it still tastes good 🙃 #Followherarrow#DomesticAF
“Insanity is continuing to do the same thing over and over again while expecting different results.” For years I’ve focused on HIIT style workouts, running, and other cardio focused training. I was a soccer player for a decade so endurance was everything. I got tired of feeling scrawny though - I want to feel strong! ➳
I finally pulled the plug and switched to lifting weights ONLY 3 weeks ago. Well, minus the 5-10 minutes of light cardio that I do a few times per week. The transition was awkward at first and has been discouraging at times, but overall it’s so gratifying to push boundaries. ➳
Just 3 weeks ago I was squatting the bar ONLY on my first set. Last week I was saying it will be neat to even feel comfortable squatting with 25s on both sides. This morning I racked 25s, then switched to 35s, then next thing I know I’m squatting with 45s for a total of 135lbs 🎉 That’s my freaking body weight!!! I cannot believe it. Today I felt stronger than I ever have & I cannot wait to see what I can do by elk season. I’m done being scrawny y’all! #ProgressNotPerfection#SlowAndSteady#MakingChanges#Followherarrow

Edited: just realized this recent pic might confuse people. I’m still shooting southpaw, but sometimes it’s fun to see if I still got it as a righty! Also, I still bowfish either hand, as well as shoot all guns right handed.
For #InternationalWomensDay, and in case y’all didn’t know: followHERarrow was born for all the women out there - the ones that are/were too intimidated to explore wild places with a bow in their hand...but more importantly to chase their dream, no matter what it is. It’s not meant to be taken literal all the time, even though it’s true, I do love bowhunting. ➳
The point (pun intended) is that an arrow can go in a lot of different directions:
-Travel the world
-Chase a dream job
-Go back to school
-Become a mom
-Take care of a loved one
-Join the military
-Start a business
-Work on personal health
-Get closer to God ➳
Whatever positive change in direction it is, I’m #HereForIt 💚 Shoutout to the strong women that gracefully push boundaries and set a good example for others. I’ve met some pretty awesome women in this life but I’m always looking to connect with more!
